WHAT IS
THE ROAD TO 100?
“We define the “Road to 100” as “100% of your net income in retirement”. And although we all know it’s not that simple – because there are many variables that come into play once you’ve retired – we have created a SIMPLE calculator that gives you a very basic idea of where you are on the Road to 100.”
It’s not a scientific breakdown of your finances with precision that the folks working the Large Hadron collider might envy, but it should give you a fairly good idea of where you stand.
HOW DOES THIS WEB TOOL WORK?
This tool is easy to use and fast to get your results. Also, we never ask for any personal information and we do not store any of your input. Notice that we don’t ask for your name – just a few data points to give you your “Road to 100” estimate.
Simply fill in the blanks and see the results dynamically.
In order to complete your estimate, you will need:
- The NET INCOME you are living on now that you’d like to continue into retirement.
- Your effective tax rate (what you ACTUALLY pay in combined state and federal taxes. This is usually anywhere between 22 and 28 percent)
- Your FERS or CSRS monthly pension amount. (Make sure to discount the survivor benefit amount. If you haven’t requested one from the FAA, contact us and we can help you.)
- Your Social Security age 62 estimate. (Go to www.ssa.gov and get it – should be around $1,950)
- Your Social Security Supplement amount. (You will need to do the following calculation: (Number of Years of Service – Military Time) ÷ 40 x (Age 62 Social Security Estimate) = Your approximate Social Security Supplement amount. It should end up being between $900 and $1,600.
- Your estimated TSP balance at retirement
- Your age at retirement
- Your life expectancy in age
